I did my two-week placement at Construction News and I was pretty hesitant when a reporter questioned my feelings towards cement, bricks and other materials of the trade on day one. “I’m a journalist. I can write about anything,” I told myself. Even horizontal shaft impact crushers and their hydraulic brake positioning systems, it turns out.
The technical nature of the subject made my placement challenging. But most of the people I interviewed were more than happy to explain things to me and the team at CN were helpful and supportive. I wrote four features during my placement and received some great feedback, which really boosted my confidence. I also saw two press days, which were are far cry from our own on Street Food Business (no tears, screaming or fart-arsing around).
It’s hard to believe there’s only one week of the course left – I’m looking forward to a lie-in next weekend!
